Our Lesson Policy

 

  • Call the teacher for all cancellations
  • You'll be charged for the lesson if you cancel it on the day of the lesson
  • 2 week notification is mandatory for stopping lessons, you will be charged for the lesson for 2 weeks.
  • You'll not be charged for the lesson if you cancel it at least 24 hours in advance
  • You should arrive at least 5 minutes prior to your lesson
  • $35 for half an hour per student
  • $53 for 45 minutes per student
  • $70 for an hour per student

Avery Suhay - Cello

I'm a student at ODU currently working on my Bachelors in music performance and I aim to get a Masters degree in either education or performance. I have played in quartets and other unique ensembles. Additionally I have played alongside VSO in a side by side concert. I am currently first chair in the ODU symphony. 

Avery is skilled in with the experienced in theory, music history, Cello literature and pedagogy and 12 years of cello experience

Andrew Minguez

Andrew Minguez - Violin  *Viola

Andrew Minguez, born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia, began playing piano at the age of 5 and violin at age 10, studying with Christina Morton of the Virginia Symphony. Mr. Minguez graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Viola/Violin Performance from East Carolina University and a Master’s Degree in Viola Performance from Stony Brook University. Andrew was admitted to the Doctorate of Musical Arts Program at Stony Brook on full scholarship in 2016, where he is currently pursuing a performance degree in viola. As a part of the inaugural class, Mr. Minguez studied in the Emerson String Quartet Intensive for four years while at Stony Brook. For two consecutive years his quartet was awarded the opportunity to study with Gilbert Kalish as the sole chamber ensemble in his Piano Quartet Intensive Program. Throughout his college career Mr. Minguez’s principal teachers and mentors have included Ara Gregorian, Melissa Reardon, Nicholas Cords, and Lawrence Dutton.

Steve Latham - Guitar 

Steve Latham earned his BM in Music Composition at Old Dominion University where he studied guitar with John Griggs, and earned his MM in Music Composition at University of Virginia. Latham is now a Senior Lecturer teaching music technology at Old Dominion within the Sound Recording Technology area. In addition to playing guitar and keyboards in local and regional acts in the Rock/Pop/Variety band scene, he has also taught guitar at Center of Music, MARS, and Audio, Light & Musical.

Kinnie Dunnavant - *Piano   

Kinnie Dunnavant, a native of Alabama, began playing the piano at age 6. He is a product of countless piano lessons and public school music, graduating as his high school’s most talented musician. Mr. Dunnavant graduated cum laude from Samford University in Birmingham, Al. with a Bachelor’s degree with recital in Music Education. Upon graduation, Mr. Dunnavant went west. He graduated with a Master’s degree from the University of North Texas with a concentration in Vocal Pedagogy and Opera Literature. While in Texas, he pursued and also earned a Master of Music with a concentration in Worship from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. 

 He was also the director and founder of the Ocean View Baptist School of the Arts, which was a multidisciplinary academy for music, dance, art, and drama. At one time there were over 100 students enrolled in some art discipline. While there he taught piano and has taught piano for over 20 years. 

In August of 2022, Mr. Dunnavant retired after over 40 years of being in Music ministry. While still retired, he still loves teaching music and piano.
